Child Sponsorship – Click here to sponsor a child.
The Indian Evangelical Team is committed to do the following for each child in its care. Take a holistic approach to healthy development by seeing that physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual needs are met. Build character according to Christian values: integrity, self-discipline, and compassion for others. Develop the child’s unique talents and abilities. Instill a sense of equality – that all people have equal worth in God’s sight, regardless of caste, ethnicity, or family history.
What is a needy child?
A needy child is one who has lost either one or both parents or whose parents are unable to provide one or more of the child’s basic needs: food, clothing, safe lodging, medical care, or proper education. IET operates five children’s homes, and most children in the sponsorship program live in one of these homes. The children of indigenous missionaries working in remote areas qualify for sponsorship because their parents, while able to provide most other basic needs, do not have the finances to pay the child’s education or healthcare.
What benefits will the child receive through my support?
Basic physical needs. There are different levels of support for children living in one of our children’s homes. The basic level of monthly support covers lodging, food, and tuition for the child.
A higher level of support will provide clothing, school uniforms, and healthcare. Sponsorship of a gospel worker’s child supplies an education and medical care. The opportunity to hear about Jesus.
AT IET, we are committed to meet not only the physical, but also the spiritual needs of the children. Daily chapel meetings and regular Bible studies give children the opportunity to know that Jesus loves them and has a plan for their lives.
Our children’s homes are staffed with teachers and administrators who encourage these children to see that they have individual worth that is not based on poverty level, caste, or family history. Perhaps the most important benefit to sponsored children is the encouragement in knowing that a sponsor is praying specifically for them.
Does IET help only Christians?
No. IET sponsors children of all backgrounds, without regard to race, religion, caste, or family history, and believes that each child must choose for himself whether to place his faith in Christ. We do, however, operate our facilities according to biblical moral standards, and are committed to give each child the chance to hear the gospel. Mark 10:14, 16 (NIV) serves as the foundation of our efforts: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”
Will my child write to me?
You will receive reports about your sponsored child at least three times a year. Two will be personal letters from the child, and the third will be a general assessment of the child’s progress, prepared by the child’s overseer.
May I write to my child?
We encourage you to write letters to your child as often as you wish. Please be aware, however, that because our translation resources are limited, you may not receive a response to each letter. If you wish to write, address the letter to the child and send to the following address: Indian Evangelical Team, 126 Andheri Modh, Chattarpur Pahari P.O. New Delhi – 110 074, India.
When corresponding, be sure to include the child’s Identification Number (ID#) shown on his profile card. It is often difficult to know how to best relate cross-culturally to a child. We have found the following guidelines to be helpful in establishing a good relationship between child and sponsor:
DO: You may describe your family. Describe activities, holidays, favorite pastimes. You may describe your work in a simple way. Encourage your child in his talents and achievements. Mention your relationship with Jesus. Share encouragement from the Bible.
DON’T: Avoid describing material possessions. Do not include pictures or details of type of car, size of house, etc. DO not suggest that the child visit your country. Do not give out your address or phone numbers for security reasons).
May I send packages or monetary gifts to my sponsored child?
Delivery and customs systems are unreliable in India. Letters and packages are often opened, and theft is common. In some cases, duty taxes exceed the worth of the gift. Therefore, we cannot deliver the packages to the child. While extra gift money meant for a specific child is welcome, it can cause jealousy among the other children. For this reason, IET pools special occasion gift monies received (e.g. Christmas gifts) and distributes it among all the children in the children’s home. In such cases, your child will receive a notice that you supplied the gift he received. You may, at any time, increase the amount of monthly support you send for your child.

What if I can no longer send support or my child leaves the program?
We understand that circumstances change, both with children and sponsors. If you wish to discontinue your support, the child’s care will continue as we actively seek another child sponsor. Occasionally, a child’s family becomes self-supporting and removes the child from the program. In such cases, we will extend an invitation to continue sponsorship by introducing you to anther needs child.
How can I be sure that funds I send are spent on my child?
Indian law strictly stipulates that funds received by nonprofit organizations must be spent on the purpose for which they were designed, so 100% of the money you send for your child is spent on that child. An independent auditing form that is registered with the federal government audits Indian Evangelical Team annually.
